Kyphoplasty is defined as medical spinal procedure that includes cementing the fractured vertebra with the purpose of relieving patients from back pain. Patients suffering from vertebral compression fractures are best treated with kyphoplasty.
Kyphoplasty is described as vertebral augmentation for compression fractures. Spinal compression fracture surgery is performed by making a small incision in the back of the patient through which a narrow tube is passed. The process of fluoroscopy is conducted for fractured vertebrae to create a path from the back inside the fractured area.
Vertebral augmentation for compression fractures is done by inserting a balloon through a tube to the vertebrae carefully and gently. When the balloon inflates, the fracture elevates, thus bringing the pieces to its normal position. The procedure also helps to set or compact the soft inner bone to create a cavity inside the vertebrae. Once the procedure is done, the balloon is removed.
