The sanctum sanctorum and the adjoining areas are true examples of the exquisite temple architecture of Kerala. Even the wood work of this pilgrim center is based on the poetic descriptions of Ramayana, the great Hindu epic.
The idol of the Thiruvangadu Sree Rama Temple is believed to be installed by Lord Parasurama, the great saint. Some legends say that it was installed by Swetha Muni, a disciple of saint Agastya. The annual festival, Vishy Mahotsavam of this temple lasts for 8 days. It starts with the ceremonial flag-hoisting on the day of Meta Samkramam which usually falls on the last day of Meenam, the Malayalam month. The idol of Sri Perumal is taken in a procession on elephant back during festival days around the temple. It is a spectacular event with decorated silk umbrellas and traditional art forms like Panchavadya, and Pandimelam. This temple is nearly 2 kilometers away from Thalasserry railway station.
