A religious as well as historical site in Meerut, Shahi Eidgah is a 600-year-old mosque. Erected by the youngest son of Iltutmish (the eighth king of Delhi Sultanate) - Nasir ud din Mahmud, Shahi Eidgah is located at a distance of mere a kilometer from downtown of the city. The term ‘Eidgah’ derives from South Asian Islamic culture which refers to an open-air enclosure for Eid Salah (prayer offers on the morning of Eid al-Fitr).
Shahi Eidgah is one of the largest mosques in Meerut and is reckoned for its exquisite architecture. The walls of this stunning mosque boast some exotic paintings that are truly a treat to the eyes. Along with that, the carvings on the walls of Eidgah beautifully reflect the craftsmanship of the bygone era. Shahi Eidgah is one of those few tourist places in Meerut that are given the status of the heritage site of national importance.
