It is a gorgeous lake situated in North Sikkim, popular with many names; Tso Lhamo Lake, Chho Lhamo, Cholamu Lake or Cholamoo Lake. It is one of the highest lake in the world situated at an altitude of 5,330 m, that harbours extreme temperatures, which is why it is remote to most of the tourists. Fed by the snow covered mountains that surrounds it, Tso Lhamo Lake is one of the sources of River Teesta. This serene lake, nurturing in the lap of the isolated part of mother nature, is blessed with delightful views that creates an enchanting environment and fills the rare visitors with the sense of peace. Though it requires a special Army permit to visit this lake, it is still one of most astoundingly beautiful lake that tops the list of Sikkim’s must visited lakes.

The adventurous treks from Chopta valley to Deori Tal and Tungnath Shiva Temple surely attracts the adventure loving tourists of Sikkim. While the wildlife enthusiasts must visit the Kanchula Korak Musk Deer Sanctuary to fascinate themselves by witnessing the extreme biodiversity spread across 5 sq. km of this place.

Getting There
It takes 7-8 hours drive from Gangtok to reach Lachen which is the resting place for the tourists who wish to visit the Gurudongmar Lake residing just 9 kilometers away from Tso Lhamo Lake. There are shared Jeeps / SSRTC Buses from Geyzing or from Pelling are available to reach here. One can choose to enjoy the scenic trek from Lachen to reach directly to the Tso Lhamo Lake or can opt to rent a private taxi till Chopta valley from where the trekking is not that long.
