The Himalayan Zoological Park radiates with not just beautiful Himalayan wildlife but the enclosure itself, that is lined with staggering trees that run on each side of the path that leads one inside. Spanning about 230 hectares of forested land, this zoo is placed at an altitude of 1,780 metres which offers a splendid view of Mount Khangchendzonga. This unique zoo is the amongst the best places to visit in Gangtok to spot exotic wildlife conserved well in their natural habitats. The top attraction of the zoo are the endangered Red Pandas that wiggle their way up the trees hiding and sheltering. While in this tourist place, the other attractions you may also see are the varieties of birds such as Golden Pheasant, Lady Amherst Pheasant, Silver Pheasant, Satyr Tragopan, Kalij etc along with mammal species such as Himalayan Black Bears, Clouded Leopard, Snow Leopards, Common Leopard, Tibetan Wolfs, Leopard Cat, Himalayan Palm Civets, Gorals, Barking Deer, Large Indian Civets, Porcupine, Yaks etc.
Himalayan Zoological Park also maintains convenient amenities for the visitors such as cafes and souvenir shop to slurp comforting beverages and take away some mementos. The enclosure also has many benches including at the drinking water points to allowing you to rest your tired feet while exploring. If you want to get a panoramic view of the zoo, there is also a watch tower.

Getting there :
Himalayan Zoological Park is about 8 km from the main town but there are many taxi services that can take you to and fro.
Best Time To Visit :
The best time to visit this zoo is during February to May and September to December. The park opens every day except Thursday between 9 am to 4 pm.
