Gangtok is the destination where tour commences. Blessed with beautiful landscape, majestic monasteries, rich culture and warm-hearted people, the capital city of Sikkim caters to all kinds of travellers and their different interests. We shall aim to explore the suburb located Tsomgo Lake, Baba Mandir and the Nathu Pass (if at all any spare time is left). Situated at an elevation of about 3753m, Tsomgo Lake is known for seasonal change in the colour of its water. For this reason, the local people consider the lake as sacred. Tsomgo is also to home several species of birds including Brahminy Ducks and wild animals like Red Panda.
The 6 hours drive through winding roads and scenic terrains will take us to Lachen, which is known for its unexploited beauty. At 2590m, Lachen is the starting point for some of the most interesting treks in North Sikkim and is the gateway to the alpine Guru Dongmar and Tso Lhamu lakes. Lachen was once served as the winter home of the shepherds who spent their summers on the alpine pastures bordering Tibet with their yaks. Lachen is now a popular base camp for trekking in North Sikkim. On our tour, we shall be witnessing the majestic Gurudongmar Lake, which is the highest lake in Sikkim and is situated at an altitude of 5181m. The crystal clear lake is surrounded by snow-clad mountains,fluttering Buddhist Prayers Flags and a temple in that adds more to the spiritual feel of the place. Gurudongmar remains frozen throughout the winter but in summers, visitors can enjoy looking at its sparkling water.
Lachung is a scenic mountain village that boasts of its lofty snow-capped mountain peaks, scenic waterfalls, sparkling brooks and apple and apricot orchards. There is also a handicraft centre at Lachung that offers a glimpse of skills of people of Sikkim. Our main place of visit would in Lachung would be the Yumthang Valley, which is a grazing pasture surrounded by the mountains. Yumthang is also known as Valley of Flowers is situated at an altitude of 3,564 metres. The valley is a home to the famed Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary that has over twenty-four species of the Rhododendron flowers. Adding to the beauty is a tributary of River Teesta that flows through the valley and the town of Lachung. Yumthang is an ideal place for spending a blissful time amidst nature, it also gives one the opportunity to reconnect with Mother Nature and see its bounty. We shall also visit the hot water spring that is believed to have medicinal properties. On our way back from Lachung, we shall stop by to watch the beauty of Bheema and Twin Waterfalls.
