How To Reach Matheran
The plateau topped by a dense jungle and other tourist attractions, Matheran is one of the major excursion spots in Maharashtra. It is well connected to Mumbai and other neighboring cities. Here are some ways how you can reach Matheran. The journey would surely be different and unique as compared to other tourist spots in Deccan India as apart from toy train and horse rides, there is no other way to reach the place directly -
By Rail:
Reach Karjat by local train or the 7.10 Deccan Express from CST to Neral.
From Pune you reach Mumbai via local. Then take a CST bound local from Karjat boarding off at Neral.
A toy train takes you to Matheran making journeys 4 times a day. It may not operate if;
- The rail tracks are under maintenance.
- Monsoons make travel hazardous
A lot of local trains carry you back to Neral. Shared cabs ply with rates of INR 70 / person. Porters carry your luggage uphill or you may ride on horseback.
If you have a car you leave it at Dasturi point. Then proceed on horseback or rickshaw.
Alternately you may leisurely trek your way to Matheran while porters safely transport your luggage to your hotel faster.
Mumbai the nearest city, situated 80kms from Matheran is connected to the world via air routes. So Bon voyage!
