St. George's Church, locally known as the Puthuppally Church is an ancient church in Kerala with beautiful architecture. Belongs to the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, it is a must-visit Christian pilgrim center located on the Puthuppally-Changancherry road in the Kottayam district. This ancient church is on the eastern bank of the Kodoorar rivulet. It was built as a small chapel in AD 1557 on a hillock near the Vazhakulam Hindu temple and dedicated to St. Mary. Later in AD 1640, it was shifted to the present location at Elamthuruthi Kunnu in the name of Mar Bahanan Sahada. The church again rebuilt retaining the major portions of the Mar Bahanan Sahada in AD 1750 in the name of St. George.
