Iskcon Temple Surat, Gujarat
Iskcon temple, locally known as Shri Shri Radha Damodar Mandir, has been founded by the Iskcon foundation in 1978. Its construction was preceded by the visit of Shrila Prabhupada, Iskcon’s founder Acharya, in 1970. Initially the area of the temple was limited to about 900 sq. ft. but over time the temple complex has been extended up to 13,600 sq. feet. Located a little away from the centre of the city and placed near the banks of Tapi River, the temple takes one away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Simple yet architecturally impressive design of the temple, beautiful idols of Lord Krishna and Lord Rama, the aarti, bhajans, and the peaceful and clean surroundings have the power of captivating and recharging a person mentally and spiritually. The temple complex also houses a guest house and shops to provide books and souvenirs.
One of the biggest temples of Surat, Shri Shri Radha Damodar Mandir is very popular among devotees. Festivals and holidays are the days when a great number of people come to have darshan of the god and bask in the special devotional songs and music of the temple.
