Located inside the premises of Guwahati University, the Anthropological Museum is an important tourist destination in the state of Assam. It is a part of the Department of Anthropology and was established in the year 1948. The collection in the museum is one of the most varied in the country. There are hundreds of objects that are of great value and antiquity and these have been preserved well. The list of exhibits is also large and they have been classified under the following heads - prehistoric objects, archaeological objects, ethnographic objects, and anthropological objects.The Anthropological Museum in Guwahati preserves old bamboo crafts, combs, weapons used during the prehistoric era; smoking pipes used by kings and also by the tribal people; musical instruments, flint box, basketry, metal objects, jewellery, textiles; and masks to name a few.

Guwahati Planetarium is located around 10 km from the museum and is a must-visit place. Sky watching session is the highlight of this place. There are a number of temples nearby as well and many of them are quite old.
