History & Cultural Tour of Assam & Nagaland
Northeast is a fascinating destination to visit that offers completely a unique experience. And to traversing through Assam and Nagaland is even more exciting, although being a neighbouring state, they have different culture, lifestyle, language and eating habits. Starting off your journey from Assam’s Dibrugarh and ending at Nagaland’s Dimapur, this 13D/12N tour package will offer you an everlasting vacation in Northeast. Our package will take you to the plains best visiting sites like Bhorpukhuri, Rang Ghar, Joysagar, Ahom Museum and Kareng Ghar. With a drive up hill to Mon, the land of the headhunting Konyak tribe where the sites that you will be taken to like Longwa village, Shangkhachingnyu village and Chenmoho village. This tour will also take you to Mokokchung where you can soak up the pleasant weather and tour places like Aliba village, Impur village, Chuchuyimlang village, Mopungchuket village and Tuophema Village. A visit to the capital is a must, while in Kohima explore the many villages and Kisama Heritage Village where the annual Hornbill festivals are held. Also, through this tour, you can witness the unique ways of cultivation like terrace fields and see their crafts and all the hardwork details imprinted by them in their work.
Dibrugarh – Sibsagar (77 km 2hrs)
On reaching Sibsagar from Dibrugarh, you can check in at the selected hotel. After freshening up, you can go for an excursion around the town visiting sites such as water tank called the Bhorpukhuri, amphitheatre called the Rang Ghar, man-made lake Joysagar, Ahom Museum and Kareng Ghar. Later, you can return for dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
(Sibsagar is widely known for the monuments and historical sites dating back to the Kingdom of Ahom. While here, one can visit many attractions around the city)
Sibsagar- Mon (120km/ 5/6 hrs)
After an early breakfast at the hotel, you will be driven to Nagaland’s northernmost district Mon. On reaching Mon town, you can check in at the guest house/resort and rest followed by dinner and overnight stay.
(Mon is a hometown of the Konyak tribe who are known for their tattoos that symbolizes their head-hunting trait. Also, they are skilled in making wood carving, gun-making etc. This land is also regarded as the Land of Anhg)
Mon
You will be taken to visit the Longwa village, this village is located in the Indo-Myanmar border and it runs through the Anhg’s house. Here, you will be taken to visit the Angh’s house where one can notice the massive wood carvings. Later, after lunch you will be driven to Shangkhachingnyu village where we will see local craftsmen and war trophies. Dinner and overnight stay at the guest house/resort will follow.
Mon
After breakfast you will be driven to Chenmoho village here you get to see local people with tattooed faces. You can explore the village and meet the friendly locals and interact with them. Following the next stop to Chui village you can see the ethnic Konyak way of constructing their houses. You may also see the local weavers and craftsmen creating beautiful works. Later, you can return to the guesthouse/resort for dinner and overnight stay.
Mon- Mokokchung (180km. 8/9 hrs)
On day 5, after breakfast you will be driven to Mokokchung, enroute Longritzu Lenden Valley and Chuchuyimlang village. From there on your drive will be continued to Mokokchung, the hometown of the Ao Nagas. On arrival, you can check in at the pre-booked hotel for overnight stay.
Mokokchung
You can explore Mokokchung and its nearby villages. You will be taken to visit the Museum at Impur village and Mopungchuket village. Later, after lunch, you will be driven to Aliba village where you can see one of the biggest log drum in Nagaland. After, you will be taken to Chungtia village, on arrival back to Mokokchung dinner and overnight stay at the hotel will follow.
Mokokchung- Tuophema (120km)
After breakfast, you will be driven to Tuophema village enroute Ungma Village, the oldest and largest village in Nagaland. On reaching Tuophema Village you will be introduced to the local weavers and meet old peoples. Your next destination will be to Longkhum village which has being regarded as the vanguard village of the Ao region during head-hunting days and it also acts as a model in biodiversity conservation. The next village excursion will lead you to Longsa Village, also Tseminyu village. You will be returned to Tuophema Village for overnight stay at the Community Cottage.
Tuophema
On day 8, you can roam around the village in the morning and later go for lunch and a tour at the Gariphema village. Later, drive back to Tuophema and in the evening attend a cultural programme at Tuophema followed by overnight stay.
Tuophema- Kohima (45Km)
You will be driven to Kohima, enroute you can visit the State Museum, Kohima heritage village (see remains of Second World War) and ceremonial gates. After lunch you can check in at the pre-booked hotel and visit the World War II cemetery in Kohima followed by overnight stay at the hotel.
Kohima
You will be driven to Jakhama village on day 10th which is 16km away from Kohima and here you can explore the village. Next you will be taken to Kigwema village and Kisama the Heritage complex where the annual Hornbill festival takes place. Later after lunch at Kohima you can visit the emporium/souvenir shops and local market where you'll get to see local vegetables, insects and worms, etc for food by the Naga people. After all day of excursion you can return for dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Kohima- Khonoma
In the morning after breakfast, you will be driven to Khonoma village. Here you can find Culture, History and Nature intact together. You can explore the village and see ceremonial gates, morung, cairn circles, forts, historical sites, age group house, meet local craftsmen weaving shawls and cane basket. After lunch you will be taken to see the terrace fields and see how the cultivation is done. This will be followed by indigenous games which will be demonstrated by the local youth and thereafter we shall try the locally prepared brew. Dinner and overnight stay at the Khonoma Homestay will follow.
Khonoma- Mezoma- Khonoma (7km)
You will be taken for a nature walk in the morning, you can witness jhum cultivation also known as shifting cultivation. You can also catch a quick glance of the state animal of Nagaland, Mithun. After, you will be driven for 7km to Mezoma village, followed by a lunch and exploring the village. Overnight stay at Mezoma homestay. However, you can also drive back to Khonoma and stay overnight at Mezoma and overnight stay at Khonoma.
Khonoma/Mezoma - Dimapur & Departure (87km)
You will be driven to Dimapur enroute Secuma village. Once you arrive Dimapur, you will be transferred to the airport/railway for your onward destination.
