Brahmatal Lake Trek is an easy to moderate trek for those trekking lovers who want to have the experience and adventure of high altitude mountain hiking, camping & relative easier challenges to deal with. What makes this 05 Nights & 06 Days Trek in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand in Garhwal Himalayas so popular, among other things, is that you are treated to 360 degree views of several Himalayan peaks, along with a bird’s eye view of everything around you from the highest point of the trek.
Brahmatal Trekking Tour takes you to Lake Brahmatal, which in itself is not a very big lake, but just standing beside it gives you the feeling of having left the world behind, and immersing in this piece of beauty that stands before you. Photographers should especially look forward to this trek, since you will be able to capture such incredible pictures and videos that they will be your special collection.
The trek takes you across rhododendron & oak forests, find yourself in lush wide meadows, cross gurgling streams, and even camp just 500 meters away from the lake. But, what is special about this trek among the other most famous treks in Uttarakhand is the exceptionally beautiful views of several snowdressed peaks in Garhwal & Kumaon Himalayas like Mt. Trishul, Mt. Nanda Ghunti, Mt.Mana, Mt. Neelkanth and Mt. Chaukhamba. You even get to see the ridge that connects Mt. Trishul to Mt. Nanda Ghunti.
The maximum altitude at which you will find yourself during the course of the trek is 12,100 feet. One other advantage of taking this trek is that you don’t have to worry about high altitude sickness, since a major part of the trekking trail crosses forest cover.
The best time to take the Brahmatal Lake Trek depends largely on the kind of experience you are looking for, since the landscape undergoes a change during the summers and winters. From mid November to March, when the entire stretch of the trekking trail is covered in snow, it becomes one of the most sought after winter treks in Uttarakhand. This is the best time to take this trek for those who want to get the experience of snow trekking. During the summer, from April to May, the richness and colorful landscape steals your heart. This is the perfect time to take this trek if you want to see the contrast of colours without having to deal with the chilly temperature. October to November, or the autumn season, is also a great time to enjoy this trek.

After some time, you will reach a small village called Mandoli. Fill your water bottle and take a short break. The trekking route now will consist of gradual ascends. After a moderately steep climb for a while, you will reach a valley which is the confluence of two rivers, Kali and Pindari.
After continuing along the route, you will reach the Kali Valley, followed by a group of mud huts. Here, you will find a grove of rhododendrons which takes the red colour from February to March. The next landmark of the route is a wooden bridge above a stream which is accessible while descending the slope. After crossing the wooden bridge, you will reach Begum, a resting point overlooking the vast lush bugyals at a distance. Set up camp in close proximity to Lake Khopdaliya. The tranquillity and serenity of this place will win you over.
Overnight stay in the camp.
While trekking today, you will cross oak and rhododendron forests over steep slopes for some time before you arrive at a meadow called Telandi. During winters, this vast stretch of green is covered with snow and is transformed into an enormous snowfield.

You will recognise it by the yellow flags fluttering in the air. Descend the slope to make your way towards Brahmatal Lake, located at a distance of about 500 meters from the temple. As you proceed, the valleys of Almora and Nainital will accompany you. Everywhere you run your eyes, you are treated to spectacular views of the colossal peaks of several Himalayan ranges in Uttarakhand like Trishul, Nanda Ghunti and others of the Greater Himalayas.
Set up camp at a distance of almost 500 meters from the Brahmatal lake.
Your day begins early in the morning as you make your way towards Lake Brahmatal, which involves an uphill climb. Oak and rhododendron trees dot the trail, making it an exceptionally beautiful one. Even though this part of the trek is a bit challenging and tiring, the views that await you from the top are worth it. Once you reach the top, you are treated to the views of Mt. Trishul and Mt. Nanda Ghunti. Take your time and savour the beauty of the surroundings, for these are views that move you from within and remain etched in your memory for a long time.
