Midnapore was a single district till 1st January 2002 when it was divided into two districts, Purba (East) and Paschim (West) Midnapore. Both the districts have a common railway station, and are connected to Kolkata, the capital city of West Bengal, as well as other parts of the state, through road. None of them however, have their own airport. Here’s how you can reach Midnapore.
By Air
The nearest airport to Midnapore is Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Airport, located at a distance of almost 138 km, and a driving distance of almost 3 hours. You can hire a taxi or any other private vehicle to reach it from the airport itself. You will have to do the same to reach West Midnapore.
By Rail
To reach Purba Midnapore, or East Midnapore, you will have to catch a train from Howrah Railway Station. From there, board a Haldia local which goes to Tamluk Station while crossing Mecheda and Panskura. After reaching Tamluk, you can reach East Midnapore via a taxi or any other private vehicle. West Midnapore has its own railway station called Midnapore Railway Station which runs trains to all parts of India.
By Road
Both East and West Midnapore are connected to Kolkata via NH 16. East Midnapore is located almost 21 km from Kanthi, 45 km from Tamluk, 10 km from Kharagpur, 132 km from Kolkata and 312 km from Asansol. West Midnapore is located almost 145 km from Kolkata, 136 km from Balasore and 145 km from Jamshedpur (Jharkhand).
