Along the Indira Canal, Kala Gaon (Arts Village) is an Awadhi village and a popular tourist attraction in Lucknow. Uninfluenced by the modern lifestyle and technologies, this traditional village gives tourists a chance to explore rural India. Sprawling over a large area of 4 acres of land, this must-see tourist site in Lucknow is an effort of a renowned sculptor, Dharmendra Kumar and his wife, who is a Painter, Neeta. It was their vision to established Kala Gaon back in 2010 with the help of students of Lucknow Arts College. They established this beautiful settlement with an aim to bring the village life of Uttar Pradesh into the eyes of the general public and tourists. Coming on to the place, this cultural tourist place in Lucknow is consists of small hamlets. These hamlets are beautifully adorned with trees and the mud huts. Along with that, the place also houses around 40 sculptures of clay and stone, a horse-drawn carriage and a bullock cart.

In order to give it a real rural touch, the place also includes granaries, curd-making pots and other important objects. A better insight into the rural life of India can be attained through the art gallery which is located inside the Kala Gaon Village. Apart from this, a rural tour of Kala Gaon also proffers you a chance to indulge in a shopping session at Crafts Bazar and cultural dance and story-telling programs at open-air theatres. Besides, one of the major highlights of this famous tourist destination in Lucknow is the string puppet show. During the late spring season and early summer season, the place organizes various cultural activities for a period of 40 days.
