Nanda Devi National Park Uttarakhand

Embedded at a distant place in Uttarakhand, Nanda Devi National Park was established in the year 1982. The park is home to the second highest mountain in India, Nanda Devi, which stands tall at a height of 7816 m and is a delight and a reward for visitors. One can also sight the majestic Himalayan peaks like Changband, Dunagiri, Rishi Pahar, Trishul and many more. Set at an elevation of more than 3500 m above the sea level, this park was renowned as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the year 1988 and is also amongst the high altitude national parks in Uttarakhand. In the year 2005, it was expanded and renamed as Nanda Devi and Valley of Flowers National Parks, which guard and pamper a wide variety of wild creatures like Snow Leopard, Himalayan Tahr, Musk Deer and birds over an area of 630.33 sq km. It is also the home to the Nanda Devi Sanctuary and is one of the must-visit tourist destination in Uttarakhand as its beautifully adorned with an extensive range of flora. Whether it's the climate or the topography of the park all of it is unique in its own sense and way apart from other national parks in India.

The National Park cossets a comprehensive collection of flora wherein there are 17 rare and special species like birch, fir, juniper, rhododendron out of 312 floral group.

Fauna in Nanda Devi National Park

The wildlife creatures sheltered here include Himalayan tahr, mainland serow, Himalayan musk deer, which are some of the larger mammals. Apart from this, one can find beings like a Himalayan black bear, snow leopard, and langurs along with goral and rhesus macaque in the vicinage. Besides, there are 114 species of the feathered birds.

Best Time to Visit Nanda Devi National Park

An ideal time to visit here is between 15 June to 15 September, though the park remains open for a period of six months starting from 1st May to 31st October. Between mid-June and mid-September, one can witness the riot of colours as the national park experience blooming of variety of flowers in this period.
