How to Reach Pondicherry by Road?
Pondicherry or Puducherry enjoys good connectivity to the nearby cities and town. Travelling by road is considered to be one of the best ways of reaching Pondicherry if one is in South Indian states. It is connected to the cities of Bengaluru and Chennai via the National Highway 45, and you can hire taxis and other private vehicles to reach them. Besides taxis and private vehicles, buses are also operated to and from Pondicherry to cities like Coimbatore, Chidambaram, Trichy, Mahabalipuram, and Thanjavur.
There are two roads that connect Pondicherry with other destinations - the East Coast Road (ECR) and the National Highway 45 (NH 45) which is also known as Grand Southern Trunk Road (GST). Of the two, the more popular, as well as more preferred road is the East Coast Road (ECR). The drive along this road is a scenic one, with the road dotted with sand dunes on one side and the sea on the other. Some of the towns which you pass on the way are Kalpakkam, Marakkanam, Mahabalipuram and Kalapet. The Grand Southern Trunk Road (GST), on the other hand, is connected to Pondicherry via the NH 45. Some of the cities and towns which this road goes through are Madhurantakam, Melmaruvathur, Tambaram, Chengalpattu and Tindivanam.
