Maharashtra Travel by Air
Maharashtra has good connectivity of flights that ply from various destinations across India and to other International places. There are more than 25 domestic airports across different cities in Maharashtra, out of which, there are four international airports like Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai International Airport in Navi Mumbai (commercial operation to start by 2020), New Pune International Airport in Pune ( it is said to start operating from 2019) and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur. Amongst the four airports, Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport located in Mumbai is said to be the second busiest airport in India after Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.
Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport operates a number of flights on a regular basis. Air France, Air India, Alliance Air, Emirates, Ethiopian Airlines, GoAir, IndiGo, Iraqi Airways, Jet Airways, Kenya Airways, Kuwait Airways, Lufthansa, SpiceJet, United Airlines and Vistara are amongst the many airlines operating to and fro Mumbai. Some of the busiest domestic flights are received from places like New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Goa, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Cochin, Jaipur and Mangalore. And, the busiest International flights operate from places such as Kuwait, Jeddah, Muscat, Hong Kong, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Bangkok–Suvarnabhumi, Singapore, London–Heathrow and Dubai.
Being developed as the second international airport for Mumbai, Navi Mumbai International Airport is said to start commercial flights from 2020. Unlike Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport having only one runway, the Navi Mumbai is said to have two parallel runways. The Pune International Airport however is said to start from 2019 with around 70 flights and only two to four international flights.
Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport of Nagpur operates international flights to Doha in Qatar, Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and Sharjah in UAE and domestic flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, Kolkata, Indore and Ahmedabad. Apart from international airports, Maharashtra also has several domestic airports in places like Amravati, Chandrapur, Dhule Gondia, Jalgaon, Ratnagiri, Shirpur, Sindhudurg, Solapur, and Yavatmal.
