Best Time to Visit Drass

Drass is famously known for being the coldest place in India, as temperature can fall as low as -30 °C during winters. There is hardly any rain during the monsoon, because of the high altitude. Summers is when tourists visit Drass, as the roads are open & weather is pleasant.

Even though the months from July to September are called the monsoon season, there is hardly any rainfall in Drass because of its high altitude & its location in a rain shadow area.

Winter Season (mid September to May, Temperature -5°C to -25°C)

The winter season is characterised by extremely cold temperatures, which at times become unbearable. The temperature can fall as low as -25°C. There is heavy snowfall and the National Highway (NH 1), which connects Drass to Kargil and Srinagar, is closed.
