The best time to visit this isolated yet spectacular region of Himachal Pradesh is during the summers from May to October. It is in fact the only time when the roads remain clear of ice. In the winter season, Lahaul & Spiti hides under the thick blanket of snow.
Summer Season (May-June):
With the temperature ranging between 8°C and 15°C, this is the ideal time to visit Lahaul and Spiti Valley. The weather remains cool and moderately chilly during this time permitting many outdoor and trekking activities. With the roads getting cleared off snow and clear skies, this is the perfect time to explore the cold deserts of Spiti and the green vegetation of Lahaul.
Monsoon Season (July-September):
Lahaul and Spiti fall in the rain shadow region of the Himalayas and therefore, experience little to no rainfall during these months. While Lahaul and Spiti are one of the best destinations to visit during the monsoons, the roads leading to these regions, mainly through Kinnaur and Manali, become very prone to landslides.
Winter Season (November-April):
This region experiences extremely cold and harsh winters, with the temperature falling to as low as -17°C and even lower in some villages of Spiti. However, for winter lovers and snow enthusiasts, Lahaul and Spiti is an attractive destination during this time of the year.
