Almost a century old, Digboi Oil Refinery was established during the year 1901. It was set up by Assam Oil Company Private Limited and was taken over by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOC) in the year 1981. This refinery is still mightily operable and functioning; and deals with both refining and marketing operations. There is a possibility of installation of state of the art equipment of oil refining in a matter of few months. It is also popularly named as “Gangotri of the Indian Hydrocarbon Sector”. It continues to be one of the flagship oil companies of India.
Popular Things to Do & See in and around
There is a museum on the refinery property which houses the first oil well that was used during the beginning of the 20th century. There are also displays of ancient oil tools and equipment used during the better part of the 20th century.

Digboi experiences a pleasant weather all year around which makes it a prime tourist spot of Assam. In summers, the temperatures go as high up as 36 degree Celsius. Monsoon rain pelts down quite heavily during July to September. Winters, i.e., October to March, is a comfortable season to visit Digboi when the temperature ranges from 10 to 25 degree Celsius.
