Western Ghats is one of 37 UNESCO Heritage sites in India and tourists from all across the globe come to delve into the tranquility and serenity of the place. The Western Ghats is not just known for their scenic beauties also the diversity of the culture of the people inhabiting the land. With the blend of old and new Western Ghats has become the hotspot for tourist attraction. The Maharaja Express Southern Sojourn is the best way to explore the ebb and flow of the Western Ghats. Starting from the Chatrapati Shivaji Terminal at Mumbai, the train takes you through the some of the most picturesque sights in India. Upon reaching Goa, guests can indulge in exploring the local churches and get acquainted with the Goan culture. The Maharaja Express Southern Sojourn takes guests next to Hampi where they can explore the ancient ruins of Vijayanagar empire. Upon reaching Mysore, guests get to explore the Mysore Palace and trace the history of the royal family of Mysore. The journey takes guests to the city of Cochin and Kumarakom where guests can explore the backwaters of Kerala. Also known as God’s own country, Kerala has some of the most exotic places to explore. The final destination on the journey is Trivandrum where the luxury vacation ends. Throughout the luxury holiday, guests get to explore some of the most exotic heritage places and also get to mingle with the local cultures.

Explore Detailed Itinerary Below

Day 1: Mumbai- The City That Never Sleeps

  • Embark upon the Maharaja Express Southern Sojourn at the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower in Mumbai. After the on-boarding process is complete, proceed to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus to board the luxury train.
  • Guests are welcomed with a traditional Indian welcome at the railway station. Welcome drinks are served to the guests and the Police band play melodies as guests on-board the train.
  • Train departs for Goa as the dinner is served on-board the Maharaja Express.

Day 2: Goa – Lose Yourself In The Party Capital of India

  • The early morning is welcomed by the sight of beaches of Goa. On-board breakfast is served.
  • Post breakfast proceed to exploring churches of Goa, which are a UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore the Basilica of Bom Jesus which exhibits the preserved remains of the famous Saint Francis Xavier. Also, explore the houses of Old Panjim, a perfect blend of Portuguese and Indian architecture.
  • Return to the Maharaja Express for Lunch.
  • De-board the train to experience a Goan evening filled with music and dance. Enroute, make a quick stop at the Goa Chitra Museum. The finest ethnographic museum in the state is the best place to understand the culture of the state.
  • Dinner is arranged at an exclusive venue amidst the Goan carnival.
  • Post dinner return to the comforts of the Maharaja Express.

Day 3 :Goa-Hampi

  • The day starts with a stupendous breakfast as train proceed towards Hampi. The guests are treated with the beauty of the Western Ghats.
  • Lunch is served on-board the Maharaja Express.
  • Upon arriving at Hospet railway station, embark upon the journey to explore Anegundi village. Dating back to Neolithic age, the enchanting village is spread over the banks of river Tungabhadra.
  • Guests may opt for a rejuvenating session of Spa at a 5-star hotel.
  • Return to the luxury train as the splendid dinner is served.

Day 4 : Hampi- A UNESCO World Heritage Site

  • The day starts with breakfast served on-board.
  • Post-breakfast de-board to visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Hampi. The enchanting complex of Hampi have some of the most ancient monuments and temple, a testimony of the Dravidian style of architecture of the Vijaynagar empire.
  • Return on-board the Maharaja Express to enjoy the lunch served on-board.
  • The train sails to Mysore as the dinner is served on Maharaja Express.

Day 5 : Mysore- The Enchanting Royalty

  • After the breakfast on-board the luxury train proceed to the Wodeyar Palace also knowns as Mysore Palace. Home to the royal family of Mysore, Mysore Palace is one of the largest Palace in the entire South India.
  • Lunch is arranged at the Lalitha Mahal Palace Hotel. Built for an exclusive stay of Viceroy of India, during British rule, it is one of most royal structure in entire Mysore.
  • Guests may either return to the Maharaja Express or they can opt to visit Srirangapatna, the capital city of the Tipu Sultan’s empire.
  • Return to the comforts of Maharaja Express as the dinner is served on-board. The train moves to its next destination, Cochin.

Day 6 : Cochin- Jewel of The East Coast

  • The morning brings the beauty of God’s own country, Kerala. Breakfast is served on the train.
  • The lunch is served on-board as the caravan sails across the scenic sights of Kerala.
  • De-board upon reaching Cochin and proceed to explore the village complex. The experience will offer guest an insight into the traditional practices of Kerala.
  • Visit the unique Chinese Fishing Nets and Crabs Farm and witness them in action. Return to the Maharaja Express for the dinner.

Day 7: Kumarakom- The City of Mesmerizing Backwaters

  • The last day of the luxury vacation starts with breakfast served on-board.
  • Post breakfast get going for a Canoe cruise on the mesmerizing backwaters of Kumarakom, as the Canoe sails across lush green Coconut plantations.
  • Lunch is arranged at the lakefront.
  • Lunch is followed by the famous snake boat race. Witness the snake boat race, as the traditional boats fight to reach on top of the leaderboard.
  • Return to the comforts of the Maharaja Express as the Luxury train rushes to its terminus, Trivandrum.
  • Dinner is served on-board the luxury train.

Day 8: Trivandrum- The Heart of Kerala

  • Early morning breakfast is followed by de-boarding at Trivandrum around 8 am in the morning. Bid farewell to the luxury holidays aboard the Maharaja Express Southern Sojourn.

Mumbai

From soothing beaches, worldwide recognised monuments, a nightlife that people crave for, one of the largest tropical forest to temples that spiritually calm people, Mumbai seems like a different world of its own, it is a city which has everything in just the right portions. Like the sea keeps coming to the shore every now and then so are the dreamers who pack their bags to become a star. It is a wonderland for the acting clan, the dreamers and the hard workers.

Goa

Like pearls are rare and precious to people, so is Goa to the western part of India. Embracing the Portuguese influences, this tourism destination has only seen better days in the coming years. With shimmering beaches, wild parties, great food, friendly environment, prismatic shrines, one can’t probably name something that Goa doesn’t have to offer to its wanderers. Divided into North and South, the travellers who love peace and solace, Goa takes them for a ride down to the lesser visited places that have been influenced by Portuguese culture, offbeat beaches and sightseeing spots, something the state cherishes till date.

Hampi

A silver lining in the sky of Karnataka is the city of Hampi. A land so blessed with a history which it showcases in the form of its Group of Monuments that are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hampi is like the true love of every architecture and history buff whose faces glow up at the site of fine ancient carvings. And that’s not all as the city is blessed with other tourist attractions like Monkey Temple, Archaeological Museum and Virupaksha Temple that keeps the travellers engrossed and makes them stay here a little while more. The famous Hampi festival brings in a number of travellers to its door who want to experience the culture and traditions that are followed on the land.

Mysore

A tourist place which is praised by every other traveller for its historical importance and heritage in Karnataka is none other than Mysore. Travellers from across the globe come here just to get a glimpse of the Amba Vilas Palace also known as Mysore Palace just to relive history. The famous festival of Karnataka, Mysore Dussehra that takes place for 10 days uses the charming location of Mysore Palace which is dolled up for the event. And just when the travellers think that there is nothing left in Mysore to explore, the city brings its fine cuisine, crowded bazaars and its ayurvedic importance in the notice.

Cochin

A lot of travellers talk about Cochin, for it has been a major port city on the south-west coast of India. What all that they praise this tourism destination in Kerala is for maintaining a different identity. It’s the land of the traders, where Portuguese houses still remain the same, the place that talks about religion in its age-old mosques and the land that shares harmony with international destinations like China. Kumarakom

The taste of sweet life comes as soon as travellers step into this village which uses the background of Vembanad Lake, Kumarakom. Being an important part of Kuttanad region in Kerala, the village is a popular tourist destination for its flora and fauna, backwaters, outpouring presence of Ayurveda and sacred sites. Trivandrum

Known as the capital city of Kerala and lovingly called the “Evergreen city of India’ by Mahatma Gandhi, Trivandrum possess the modern touch wanderers from across the globe wish for in India. From the 1729 built Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Kovalam and Varkala beach and the soothing backwaters, Trivandrum is as massive and astounding as one can expect it to be.
