Explore Detailed Itinerary Below

Day 1: Delhi – Mandawa – Jaisalmer: The fabulous havelis of Mandawa!

  • Your Majestic Rajasthan Tour begins in the morning with a departure from Safdarjung Railway Station. Enjoy your lunch onboard.
  • Arrive at Mandawa and then set off to visit the famous havelis of Mandawa.
  • Mandawa was once inhabited by rich merchant families who built enormous havelis which were decorated with intricate wall paintings. The themes of these wall paintings changed from time to time. For a certain period of time, local mythological characters dominated, until they were replaced by themes that displayed the influence of British Raj on the culture of India.
  • Enjoy tea or coffee at a hotel and then return to the train for dinner and an overnight journey to Jaisalmer.

Day 2: Jaisalmer – Jodhpur: Some culture, some adventure!

  • After arriving at Jaisalmer, enjoy your breakfast onboard the train. Post breakfast, visit Jaisalmer Fort, Gadisar Lake and Patwon ki Haveli. A delicious lunch awaits you at the hotel.
  • Now comes the adventurous part of this luxury train tour to Rajasthan. You will be taken dune bashing at the Sam Sand Dunes. This is followed by dinner and a cultural performance consisting of folk music and dance.
  • You also have the option of enjoying alcoholic beverages. Return to the train and depart for Jodhpur.

Day 3: Jodhpur – Jaipur: Here forts, there palaces!

  • The train reaches Jodhpur in the morning, while you are served a delicious breakfast. Post breakfast, deboard the train to visit Mehrangarh Fort and Jaswant Thada.
  • Mehrangarh fort sits atop a hill and towers above Jodhpur at almost 100 ft. It is a gigantic fort & one of the most famous of its kind in India. Rudyard Kipling, the famous writer, paid a fitting tribute when he called it, “the work of giants”. It is counted among the best preserved forts in India.
  • Enjoy lunch at a hotel/restaurant. Visit the local market and clock tower in the afternoon. There are a variety of items that you can purchase, including leather items, antiques, textiles, handicrafts and jewellery.
  • Return to the train for dinner followed by an overnight stay. The next stop in your Majestic Rajasthan Tour is Jaipur.

Day 4: Jaipur – Delhi: All that royalty is Jaipur!

  • A wonderful breakfast awaits you, following which, you will deboard the train to begin your exploration of Jaipur. The two popular tourist places in Jaipur which you will be visiting are Amber Fort and City Palace.
  • Amber Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site whose architecture beautifully combines the Hindu and Mughal styles of architecture. It amazes the onlookers with its dazzling exteriors and overall magnificence. It is seven centuries old and contains spectacular buildings like Diwan-e-Aam and Sheesh Mahal. The Maota Lake, which is located in front of the lake, accentuates the beauty of the structure.
  • City Palace looks especially beautiful during the evenings, when it’s illuminated. It graciously combines the best elements of Rajput and Mughal architecture. It was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II and is home to various spectacular structures like the Mubarak Mahal. It houses several fascinating items like royal costumes, Pashmina shawls, Benares silk saris and Sanganeri prints.
  • After all this sightseeing, you will be treated to a wonderful lunch at a hotel with day use rooms. You can also choose to visit the Observatory, or, the Jantar Mantar.
  • A different kind of dinner experience awaits you at Chokhi Dhani. Post dinner, return to train to begin your return journey to Delhi.
  • Chokhi Dhani is more than just a place that serves you the local food. It recreates the rural way of life in Rajasthan with its village like settings, folk song & dance performances and other activities.

Day 5: Delhi: Bye, come again!

  • Breakfast will be served onboard, after which you will deboard the train once it reaches Safdarjung Railway Station.

Delhi

Delhi was once the capital of the Mughals, and then of the British. Both of them left their imprints on the city in the form of grand structures, and it is largely to them, besides its being the capital of India, and therefore, the center of power, that Delhi owes its popularity. You have monuments like Red Fort, Jama Masjid and Safdarjung Tomb from the Mughal era. This is Old Delhi, chaotic, bustling, always crowded, and yet, having that distinct flavour that draws you towards it. Alongside it is New Delhi, or Lutyens Delhi, clean, suave, sophisticated and dotted with stylish bungalows. Besides these, there are numerous bazaars where the art of haggling holds you in good stead. Hanging out in Connaught Place exposes you to the happening, fast, fashionable side of Delhi as does an evening spent in Hauz Khas. But Delhi is also much more than this.

Mandawa

Mandawa has a fascinating past. It once served as a trading outpost for goods brought in from China and the Middle East. Soon, it attracted a large number of traders, who built the havelis that you see today. A major tourist attraction is the Mandawa Fort (now converted into a heritage hotel), which always evokes admiration with its painted arched gateway, frescoes, exquisite carvings and mirror work. Snehi Ram Ladia Haveli, Hanuman Prasad Goenka Haveli, Sewaram Safar Haveli and Golden Haveli are other havelis that draw tourists in equal numbers. In fact, it is because of these havelis that Mandawa is called the “open art gallery” of Rajasthan.

Jaisalmer

Take a lot of time with you when you visit Jaisalmer, as it has so much to offer. It is a land of havelis, all of which outdo the other in grandeur and splendor. If Nathmal Ji Ki Haveli wins your heart with its mighty tuskers and miniature style paintings, wait till you see Salim Singh ki Haveli, which shines brightly under the sunlight and surprises one with its high arched roof which is supported by carved brackets in the shape of peacocks. And then you watch the Jaisalmer Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which, apart from its architectural grandeur, has also featured in one of Satyajit Ray’s Feluda stories. But there are other reasons to visit Jaisalmer, such as, a camel ride, the thrill of dune bashing, or exploring the abandoned, and supposedly cursed, town of Kuldhara. Camping in the desert is almost a given when it comes to experiencing Jaisalmer.

Jodhpur

When you visit Jodhpur, your mind is visited by a question, “why is everything blue here”? The houses are blue, so are the temples, forts and shops. This peculiar fascination of the city with the color blue is intriguing, and yet, it is that very color which lends it its distinct identity. Equally intriguing is the Mehrangarh Fort, which always manages to extract a sigh from onlookers with its colossal size and massive proportions. All of Jodhpur seems to pay tribute to it. Unrestrained opulence stares you in the face at Umaid Bhawan Palace, while a trip to the Bishnoi village offers you a glimpse into their distinct way of life.

Jaipur

Jaipur is the capital city of Rajasthan and a UNESCO World Heritage City. The fortified city, built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1727, is also the first planned city of India, something that its citizens take great pride in. One of the features of the city is its chaupars, which are large public squares formed by the intersection of continuous colonnaded businesses in the center. Its famous tourist attractions include Amber Palace, whose beauty takes on a different appearance when it is illuminated during the night. The City Palace, with buildings like the Mubarak Mahal and Maharani’s Palace that house royal artefacts, draws tourists in large numbers. Jantar Mantar, or Observatory, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, while the Hawa Mahal is one of the major landmarks in the city. Albert Hall Museum is as dazzling in its exteriors as its interiors, and house a rich collection of objects like wood crafts, carpets, metal sculptures and stone. Any trip to Jaipur should also include a trip to its famous bazaars like Bapu Bazaar, Nehru Bazaar and Johari Bazaar, which are famous for their handloom items and crafts.
