A royal journey across the heartlands of India is the best way to describe the Deccan Odyssey Maharashtra WIld Trails. Started as a co-venture by Ministry of Tourism, Maharashtra and Indian Railways, the luxury train Deccan Odyssey was commissioned. The luxury train is inspired from Palace on Wheels, Deccan Odyssey aims to be a 5-star hotel on wheels. With its 10 coaches, the luxury ride offers accommodation ranging from Presidential suite to normal cabins. The train also features an in-house spa and business centers. The guests can choose from various recreation activities on-board and the train comes with on-board restaurant and bar & Lounge.

Maharashtra, the second most populous state of India is a spectrum of wide colors ranging from beautifully, chaotic city of Mumbai to quaint, sleepy offbeat heartlands like Lonavala. It Maharashtra were to be painted on a canvas, the infinite color range would fall short. Diverse in culture and tradition, the entire state shares a common emotion of Marathi Manush. The unity in diversity of this state makes it a wonder to witness. 8-day luxury vacations aboard Deccan Odyssey Maharashtra Wild Trails take guests through the scenic beauty and offbeat wild trails of Western Ghats, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

A circular journey starting the city of dreams, Mumbai the luxury trip takes the guests through UNESCO World Heritage sites like Ajanta and Ellora caves. The caravan also covers the Mughal city of Aurangabad, named after Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The journey takes us through the wild trails of Pench National Park and Tadoba National Park before arriving at the wine city of India, Nashik. The wildlife safari across the two national parks are the highlight of the trip as the guests get to interact the wild animals in their natural habitat. The guests would get to witness wine brewery in Nashik. The luxury vacation ends at Mumbai, but before leaving the Maharashtra Wild Trails sends you off with a bag full of memories.

Day 1: Mumbai – The Journey Begins at The City of Dreams

  • The start of the luxury vacation is marked by a traditional Maratha welcome at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus.
  • After the completion of check-in process guests can relax in their compartments as the train commences the journey to Aurangabad.
  • Dinner is served on-board Deccan Odyssey.

Day 2:Aurangabad – Ellora Caves – A Must Visit Heritage Site

  • Day 2 of the luxury holidays starts with an on-board breakfast as the train sails towards the Aurangabad railway station.
  • Meanwhile, the train reaches Aurangabad guests can opt to go for a spa session in the train itself.
  • The lunch is served on-board
  • Post lunch embark onto exploring the former Mughal city which is home to various Mughal
  • architectural marvels. One such monument is a UNESCO World Heritage site Ellora Caves.
  • Explore the ancient Hindu, Buddhist and Jain temples housed within the Ellora complex.
  • Return to the luxury of Deccan Odyssey to relax.
  • Dinner is served in an exclusive venue in the city of Aurangabad after which guests return to the luxury train for an overnight stay on-board.

Day 3: Aurangabad – Delve Into the Historical Mughal Era

  • The morning starts with a lazy breakfast on-board the Deccan Odyssey.
  • After breakfasts guests can deboard the train to explore the city of Aurangabad.
  • The first monument to visit is the Bibi-ka-Maqbara which is a replica of the UNESCO World Heritage site, Taj Mahal in Agra. Dedicated to wife of Aurangzeb, the monument was commissioned by Aurangzeb’s son, Prince Azam Shah.
  • Next destination on the list is the weaving center of Himroo fabric, a traditional fabric made in the region since Mughal era.
  • Back to the comforts of Deccan Odyssey to relax and enjoy the bar and lounge, Mumbai Hi, on-board the luxury train.
  • Dinner is served on-board as the train departs for its next destination.

Day 4 : Ramtek — Pench National Park – A Safari Amongst Tigers

  • The days begins with an on-board breakfast as the train arrives into Ramtek. Today is going to a thrilling day.
  • Proceed to a wildlife safari in the Pench National Park, home to numerous flora and fauna. You might spot tigers on the safari trails amongst many other exotic animals. If weather conditions allow, rafting is also available to guests.
  • Return to the train for a lavish lunch.
  • Relax in the cabins or rejuvenate in the on-board spa or explore the on-board lounge.
  • Dinner is served on-board as the caravan departs for Tadoba.

Day 5:Tadoba – A Safari Like None Other

  • The day 5 of the trip starts with the bright light of the shining sun. It’s an early start for today as the guests embark upon the wildlife safari of Tadoba National Park and Tiger reserve.
  • Post safari enjoy stupendous brunch at the National Park’s resort.
  • Indulge in interacting with the local staff of the park. Guests can also opt to watch documentaries on wildlife.
  • Post exploration return to refresh and relax in the comforts of Deccan Odyssey.
  • Lavish dinner is served on-board the Deccan Odyssey Maharashtra Wild Trails as we embark upon the next destination, Jalgaon.

Day 6: Jalgaon – Ajanta Caves — The Ancient and The New

  • As the guests munch upon the breakfast served on-board Deccan Odyssey on 6th day of the luxury vacation, the train arrives at the Jalgaon railway station.
  • Deboard to visit the UNESCO World Heritage site, Ajanta caves. Within the complex of 30 rock cut caves, lies ancient Hindu and Buddhist temples. Explore the ancient wall arts engraved within the caves.
  • Return to the royal train to enjoy a mouth-watering lunch on-board the train.
  • Rest of the evening would be relaxing with train departing for its final destination on Maharashtra Wild Trails, Nashik. Enjoy the facilities of the luxury train.
  • Dinner is served on-board.

Day 7: Nashik -The Wine City of India

  • As the train arrives in to the holy city of Nashik, guests could feel a sense of calmness spread all across the city. The breakfast is served on-board.
  • Post breakfast stroll onto the serene Ghats of the river Godavari. Witness the Hindu rituals and traditions being practiced on the bank of the river.
  • Explore the local markets for a shopping spree.
  • Next destination on our list is the vineyard of Nashik. Explore the place and tastes the wines that are brewed in the breweries.
  • Lunch is served in an exclusive venue.
  • Return back to the train post-lunch for a lazy evening on the train as the Deccan Odyssey proceeds for its terminus.
  • Dinner is served on-board.

Day 8: Mumbai -Back to The City of Dreams

  • The morning is welcomed by a final breakfast on-board the luxury train.
  • Deboard the train at Chhatrapati Shivaji terminus and bid farewell to the luxury holidays aboard the Deccan Odyssey Maharashtra Wild Trails.

Mumbai

The city that never sleeps, Mumbai is the perfect gateway into the tour of India. The highest populous city in India is efficiently designed for everyone. If you are a history lover, the city offers Elephanta caves, if you seek modern architecture there are plenty in the city, and for those who travel to explore culture, Mumbai is a mini-India served on a platter. With a blend of Old and New Mumbai, the metro city entices everyone. The city has famous UNESCO Heritage sites like Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Elephanta Caves and also the famous monument of the British Era – The Gateway of India. The nightlife in the city is like no other with luxuries being available 24*7.

Aurangabad - Ellora Caves

Named after the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, the city is the haven for ancient history lovers. Today a modern Industrial town, Aurangabad is known for its Mughal Era architecture. One of the many famous sites is the UNESCO Heritage site, Ellora caves. The caves house various religious shrines of Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism. The origin of the painting can be dated back to 600-1000 AD. Believed to be an important site to trace the social and religious evolution, Ellora caves are a testament to numerous religion of different faiths coexisting together. The temples inside the cave have proved monumental in studying the religious practices of the medieval era.

Pench National Park

More often than not, Central India gets neglected by tourist because of the little promotion over the region but the state of Madhya Pradesh is the haven of ecological National Parks. One of them is the Pench National Park in the Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh. The part of Pench Tiger Reserve lies in Maharashtra, making it first of its kind, sharing border with two states. Home to many exotic birds and animals, Pench National Park boasts of its Tiger population. The Pench National Park is named after the Pench river that flows through the park. Many species that inhabit the National Park are Indian Wolf, Porcupine, Striped Hyenas, Indian Leopard and many other. Park also witness flocks of the migratory bird every year. The Park is also one of the few places for river rafting in Central India.

Tadoba National Park

Another jewel in the crown of Maharashtra Tourism is the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve. Spread over the area of 650 sq km, the area includes Tadoba National Park and Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary. Named after the local tribal god Tadoba, Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve is one of the oldest Wildlife Sanctuary in India. There are various species of endangered Flora and Fauna that call this place home. Some of them are Bengal Tiger, Indian Leopard, Sloth bears, barking deer, Honey Badger etc. The Park is still home to 59 local tribes who still farm in these areas. It’s a perfect place to witness the balance of humanity and wildlife.

Ajanta

One of the oldest UNESCO World Heritage site in India, Ajanta Caves are one of the few remaining rock-cut Buddhist structures. The caves can be dated to 200 BCE to 650 BCE. Ajanta caves complex constitutes of Buddhist wall art, Buddhist monasteries and worshipping halls. Ajanta Caves have been a prime importance to the Buddhist scholars with caves being witness to some of the oldest and primitive Buddhist traditions. Guests can trace the evolution of the religion as well as the culture and people inhabiting the local lands. The sculptures of Ajanta cave arts still have a revolutionary impact on how we trace the progress of art and architecture throughout the history.

Nashik

Known as the Wine city of India, Nashik, unknown to many, is one of the most religious Hindu destinations of India. Strolling on the banks of river Godavari, one can witness the divinity of the city with Hindu priests performing the traditional aarti.  The city is home to many Hindu pilgrim sites. At the same time, the city also hosts thousands of wine lovers visiting from all across the globe. The traditional processing of wine excites many wine fanatics who are critical of the manufacturing process. A visit to vineyard always ends in guests leaving with bottles of sparkling wine and red wine.
