Bhutan Sagala Trek

Duration: 10 days Place: Paro, Thimphu, Punakha

The 09N/10D Bhutan Sagala Trek lets you explore the spectacular beauty of Bhutan via trekking, and there will be a lot of it. One of these is the trek towards the Tiger’s Nest Monastery, counted among the most famous tourist attractions in Bhutan. The trekking tour in Bhutan will take you through pine & rhododendron forests, let you enjoy the views of valleys and consist of setting up camps for an overnight stay. You will also be visiting various cultural & historical monuments in Bhutan like Memorial Chorten, Tashichho Dzong & Punakha Dzong. In Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan, you will be taking a trip to the weekend market. The main attraction of this itinerary, and why you should go for it, is exploring its landscape by trekking. Sightseeing and adventure go hand in hand with this Bhutan trekking tour.

Day 1: Arrival in Paro

Upon arrival at Paro airport, you will meet our representative and get transferred to a pre-booked hotel. Later, visit the National Museum, which houses a premium collection of Bhutanese art, traditional artefacts and samples of flora and fauna. Drive to Kyichu Lhakhang, the oldest and most sacred temple in Bhutan, which houses a 7th century idol of Jowo Jampa (Future Buddha). In the evening, visit the floodlit Rinpung Dzong, and enjoy the incredible views of Paro Valley.

Day 2: Paro, Tiger’s Nest

After an early breakfast, we will drive towards the roadhead towards Tiger’s Nest Monastery. Our guide will purchase the ticket, after which, you can start trekking towards the well-known Tiger’s Nest Monastery. The trail goes through a beautiful forest and culminates at a viewpoint of the monastery. It is home to some of the beautiful birds of Bhutan. According to the myth, Guru Rinpoche appeared in the form of furious Dorje Drolo to tame a tigress demon. One can have different views of the Tiger’s Nest Monastery while trekking towards this magnificent place. Once you reach Tiger’s Nest, the guide will describe you more about the folklore of the place and the carousal in the backdrop.

After exploring the area, trek back to Roadhead and visit the farmhouse in the gorge to detect day-to-day life in a rustic Bhutanese household. One can have chance to dress up in Bhutanese outfit and pose for pictures. Arrival at the hotel by evening, and enjoy a massage or hot stone bath (Prior booking required) at the hotel.

Day 3: Paro – Chele La – Haa Valley

Today, we will start early for Chele La Pass, the best place to spot Himalayan Monal Birds. One can also spot Blood and Kalij Pheasants, Satyr Tragopan, and admire the beauty of Blue and White Poppy flowers in Chele La Pass. After exploring nearby Chele La Pass, we will visit the sensational views of Haa Valley.

Day 4: Haa – Yangthang – Talung – Khadey Gom

In the morning after breakfast, drive to roadhead near Yangthang Village (2735m). From the village, hike towards 300 year old Yangthang Gompa (2885m), and continue to Talung through stunning pine forests. Cross the famed wooden bridge – Chag Zam – at Talung, and cross meadows and forests to reach Khadey Gom (3235m).

Day 5: Khadey Gom – Saga La – Dongney Tsho

In the morning after breakfast, we will trek towards Saga La (3720m) and enjoy the spectacular views of Jomolhari, Chaterake and Paro Valley. Later, trek downhill through rhododendron forest until it brings you to a meadow at Dongney Tsho (3200m). Today we will set out our camp next to Dongney Tsho.

Day 6: Dongney Tsho – Genchu Zam – Balaka Chhu – Paro

In the morning after breakfast, trek down to Genchu Zam. The downward trek takes you through an area rich in Himalayan flora and fauna. Continue trek towards Chodeyphu, a picturesque village located at the foot of Laum Bjara (Foggy Mountain). An hour-long hike from the village brings you to Balaka Chhu where the trek ends.

From here, we will drive to Paro for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Paro – Thimphu (The Capital City)

In the morning after breakfast, drive to Thimphu. En route, visit Tamchog Lhakhang, a temple devoted to the 14th-century Tibetan saint and engineer, Thangtong Gyalpo. Upon arrival at Thimphu, check in to the hotel, and later visit Buddha Dordenma, a huge statue of Shakyamuni Buddha that inhabits a major spot on a hilltop and offers marvellous views of Thimphu Valley. After that, visit Memorial Chorten, a major milestone of the city. Built in the memory of the 3rd king Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, this stupa is a significant site of worship for locals. One can also visit the weekend market in Thimphu. The last place that you will be visiting today is the glorious Tashichho Dzong, the seat of the Bhutanese government and the monastic body.

Day 8: Thimphu – Dochu La – Punakha

In the morning after breakfast at hotel, we will ride our bikes towards Punakha. En route, stop at Dochu La Pass, located at 3050 mts (first pass of the trip). This mountain pass affords panoramic views of Bhutan Himalayas. The highlights of the area are 108 chortens built as a tribute to the martyred soldiers, and Druk Wangyal Lhakhang. From the Pass, we will ride downhill about 40 km and reach Chimi Lakhang (Temple of fertility). The monastery honours an eccentric lama, Drukpa Kunley, who received the establishment’s wrath for his unconventional preaching methods. Afterwards, visit the glorious Punakha Dzong, an important historical site and the storehouse of the holiest religious treasures of Bhutan. Also, visit the longest suspension bridge of the country behind the fortress. Back to hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 9: Punakha – Thimphu

In the morning, explore Punakha while covering Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a beautiful temple located near Yabesa Village in Punakha Valley. Later, drive back to Thimphu.

Day 10: Thimphu – Paro Departure

In the morning after breakfast, get transferred to Paro airport to catch a fight towards your home destination.
