Limbukha

A scenically blessed and serene hamlet located in Punakha’s Dochula Hill, Limbukha is known for its medicinal red rice. Owing to its interesting history and pictorial landscape, the village serves as one of the must visit places in Bhutan. There are several things about this attraction in Punakha which if you get to know, you won’t be able to stop yourself from exploring Limbukha.

To start off with, the natives of this village were the Peace Negotiators during the war held in the Medieval Era. The villagers, also known as Limpua, are seen carrying peace flags instead of swords when Serda, the annual festival of Punakha is celebrated. This ensures that once you are here, you are assured an environment full of tranquillity.

Another fact that enthralls the visitors is the hike towards Limbukha. One could start their hike from either Punakha Valley or the Punakha Dzong. Crossing the suspension bridge over Po Chhu and Mo Chhu, one would reach the quaint village of Limbukha surrounded by paddy fields and a breath of fresh air. Chirping birds and gurgling streams would welcome with all the warmth one needs after a tiresome hike. Spring and summers are considered to be the best seasons for visiting Limbukha as the trails boast of vistas of blooming flowers. The village provides magnificent views of Punakha Dzong and the two rivers over which the suspension bridge stands.

A trip to Bhutan is incomplete if you do not pay a visit to Limbukha. It adds to your book of discoveries if you are someone who wishes to travel to less touristy places. Here you get to live with the locals which gives you an opportunity to observe their culture more closely. Therefore, when in Bhutan Limbukha must be in your to-do list.
