How to Reach Phodrang?
Bordered by snow-capped mountains and dotted with beautiful monasteries, Wangdue Phodrang is one of the largest places in Bhutan. Here, we tell you the best way of reaching it by air and road.
By Air
The easiest, and the only way to travel to Bhutan via air, is by taking a flight to Paro. Paro has Bhutan’s only international airport. Also, it is listed among the world’s most dangerous airports, hence, only a few pilots are allowed to operate flights. Bhutan Airlines and Druk Airlines have regular flights from Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Gaya and Siliguri. Druk Airlines also connects Singapore, Bangkok, Kathmandu and Dhaka with Bhutan. On reaching Paro, it is advisable to reach Thimphu followed by taking a cab or bus to Wangdue Phodrang. It takes an hour and a half to reach Wangdue from Thimphu.
By Road
On reaching Phuentsholing from Jaigaon, one can take a bus from Phuentsholing Bus Station to Wangdue. The distance between Phuentsholing and Wangdue Phodrang is 224 km. It takes five and a half hours to cover this distance.
Another way is to take a bus to Thimphu from Esplanade Bus Station, Kolkata and further take a cab or bus to Wangdue. Bhutan has Toyota Coaster buses providing a comfortable journey to most of the parts in Bhutan.
