Bhutan Cycling Tour Package

How about discovering the unarguably beautiful Bhutan on a bicycle? To all those seeking a little adventure in Bhutan, you can now enjoy the stunning views of the Himalayas, seek blessings at the beautiful monasteries, learn about the ancient culture and tradition while enjoying a bicycle tour. Our 06N/07D Bhutan Cycling Tour begins from Paro and covers the other tourist destinations of Bhutan including Thimphu and Punakha. The tour will give you a holistic travel experience to cherish for a lifetime as you will get to witness the rich Bhutanese art at the National Museum; the huge statue of Buddha Dordenma; whitewashed Memorial Chorten; the breathtaking Dochula Pass; and the longest and highest bridge of Bhutan i.e., Suspension Bridge. Along with this, you will even get to seek blessings at some of the beautiful monasteries of Bhutan including Tamchog Lhakhang,Kyichu Lhakhang and Chimi Lakhang. In addition to this, the bicycle expedition will even let you witness Punakha Dzong, the second largest and second oldest dzong of Bhutan and Tashichho Dzong, which has been the seat of government since 1952. The thrilling bicycle ride is not only limited to exploring sightseeing places but also offers an opportunity to witness the rustic Bhutanese household by visiting the farmhouses here. Our Bhutan cycling tour comes to an end with a visit to the Tiger’s Nest Monastery, the iconic landmark of Bhutan.

Day 1: Arrival in Paro

Upon arriving at Paro airport, you will be greeted by our tour representative who will transfer you to the pre-booked hotel. Later you will visit the National Museum that houses the premium collection of Bhutanese art, traditional artefacts and samples of flora and fauna. Drive to Kyichu Lhakhang, the oldest and most sacred temples in Bhutan which is home to the 7th-century idol of Jowo Jampa (Future Buddha). In the evening, visit Rinpung Dzong and enjoy the views of Paro Valley.

Dinner and overnight stay will be at the hotel in Paro.

Day 2: Explore the Paro Valley by Bike (Riding: 34km)

In the morning meet the guide and explore the Paro Valley. As Paro is situated at an elevation of 2200m, we start from indulging in a short ride in order to get trained for the cycling tour. As you spend your time cycling around, you will come across a dzong, stop by an isolated farmer’s house and will even get an opportunity to take a stroll in the town.

Day 3: Paro – Thimphu (Riding: 55km)

After having breakfast get ready to leave Paro and start the ride towards Thimphu; the capital of Bhutan. En route, you will get to visit Tamchog Lhakhang, a temple devoted to the 14th-century Tibetan saint and engineer Thangtong Gyalpo. Upon arriving at the Thimphu, check-in to the pre-booked hotel and after sometime visit Buddha Dordenma, a huge statue of Shakyamuni Buddha that inhabits a major spot on a hilltop and offers marvellous views of Thimphu Valley. Once you are done with exploring the huge statue, you will head to visit yet another tourist attraction i.e., Memorial Chorten. The Chorten was built in the memory of the 3rd king Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, this stupa is a significant site of worship for locals. One can also visit the weekend market in Thimphu. The day’s schedule will come to an end with a visit to the glorious Tashichho Dzong, the seat of the Bhutanese government and the monastic body.

Overnight stay will be in the hotel at Thimphu.

Day 4: Thimphu – Punakha (Riding: 63km)

In the morning after breakfast at the hotel, we will ride our bikes towards Punakha, en route stop at DochuLa Pass 3050 m (first pass of the trip). This mountain pass offers panoramic views of Bhutan Himalayas. The highlights of the area are 108 Chortens built as a tribute to the martyred soldiers and Druk Wangyal Lhakhang. From Pass, we will ride downhill which is 40 km and reach Chimi Lakhang (Temple of fertility), the monastery honours an eccentric lama, Drukpa Kunley, who received the establishment’s wrath for his unconventional preaching methods. Afterwards visit glorious Punakha Dzong, an important historical site and the storehouse of the holiest religious treasures of Bhutan. Also, visit the longest suspension bridge of the country behind the fortress.

Back to hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Explore Punakha Valley by Bike (Riding 15km) – Paro

Today after having breakfast we will explore the beautiful dzong at Punakha through the bike which was once the summer capital of Bhutan. As we pedal down a back road that is largely unpaved, we will get to witness great views of the river and dzong. Before reaching the fortress, we crossed the Suspension Footbridge, the longest and highest bridge in the country. After lunch at Punakha, we will drive back to Paro by car.

Day 6: Paro, Tiger’s Nest 

After an early breakfast, we will drive towards the renowned Tiger’s Nest Monastery. Our guide will take the ticket and start your trekking towards the Tiger’s Nest Monastery. The trail breezes through a beautiful forest and culminates at a viewpoint. Conferring to the myth, Guru Rinpoche appeared here to as a furious Dorje Drolo to tame a tigress demon. One can have different views of the Tiger’s Nest Monastery while trekking towards this magnificent place.  Once you reach Tiger’s Nest, the guide will describe you more about the folklore of the place.

After exploring the Tiger’s Nest Monastery, we will visit the farmhouse to witness the rustic Bhutanese household. On being here, you will get the chance to dress up in Bhutanese outfit and pose for pictures. Once done with the exploration, head back to the hotel for massage or hot stone bath (prior booking required) at the hotel.

Day 7: Paro Departure

After having the morning breakfast, you will be transferred to Paro airport for your onward journey.
