Indonesia’s national airline, Garuda launched flights between Mumbai and Jakarta on Monday, December 12, 2016. The airline has announced operation between the two cities via Bangkok thrice a week.
According to M Arif Wibowo, President and CEO, Garuda Indonesia, who spoke on the occasion of the launch at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, there are about 3 lakh people who fly to Indonesia from India annually and one-third of them (1 lakh) choose Mumbai as the boarding destination. Therefore, Mumbai is seen as an important transit point. Wibowo also said that the airline is considering operation of direct flights between the two destinations along with directly connecting Bali and Mumbai as well. The airline is also planning to operate flights from Delhi and Chennai and based on the response is likely to increase flight frequency between Mumbai and Jakarta.
It is to be noted that the flights between Jakarta and Mumbai will operate on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Garuda will be using Boeing 737 aircraft with a two-class cabin, namely business and economy. The aircraft will depart at 12:55 p.m. and arrive in Mumbai at 8:30 p.m. local time with a stopover in Bangkok.
On the other side, the flight from Mumbai will depart at 11:20 p.m. local time and land in Jakarta at 10:05 a.m. The aircraft can accommodate 156 passengers, 12 in Business Class and 144 in Economy Class.
