Ramadan is the holy month for the Muslims all over the world. Often dubbed as the ‘Month of Fast and Prayer’, Ramadan is a period secluded for practicing self-discipline. The consecrated month is then followed by the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, where a grand feast is anticipated. It is believed that during this month the holy Quran was revealed to Muhammad Prophet after stringent fasting and praying. When is Ramadan Observed?

Ramadan or Ramzan is a holy month that is observed in the ninth month of Islamic calendar (the month of June of Gregarion calendar) after seeing the crescent moon. This year Ramadan is beginning from Apr 23, 2020.

What to Expect during Ramadan?

Ramadan is the month of fasting and prayer; Muslims all over the country fast for about 30 days (from Dawn to Dust each day) in which they neither eat nor drink. During the Ramadan, Muslims are expected to abstain not only from food but from immorality. Ramadan is seen as an opportunity to self-discipline and practice self-control, the duration of a month is also apt to turn from materialistic world and to work upon virtues like forgiveness, charity and kindness.

In contradiction to the rituals of Ramadan, the month is insanely popular amongst people for the grand evening feasts, commonly known as ‘Iftar’. The evening feast time is important to Muslims, thus grand preparations of it can be seen. Iftar becomes special with variety of food items that mainly consists of non-vegetarian dishes. Ramadan gives an opportunity to understand the meaning of God-gifted life and an urge to find the reason of our existence on earth. It helps us realize that the real happiness does not reside in materialistic things but in the things that we consider the least.
