Last Updated: December 27, 2019

While you decide to get lazy on the whole Sunday afternoon, you must plan something or the other for Friday and Saturday. Officially the two Golden Days of the week, Friday and Saturday are actually assigned to give you a detour of the gone by week. While most of us utilize their Friday nights and Saturdays getting their pending work done, some actually go out to have a family get together or a party. But I feel we all need to grow out our ‘weekend routines’ and try the latest buzz in town. You are lucky enough, if you are a resident in Delhi, for the fact that the city opens a door that leads to a weekend that is divine in all its senses. Here are some of the ideas that you can use to make your Friday and Saturday in Delhi, the most happening ones.

A platter of happiness is served for you. However, if you are someone who would like to share this experience within a close circle just like me then, you can plan your own food tour and can include following places in it:

  • Chandani Chowk

Aah, the lovely winters and the Heritage Walks in Delhi fit like a glove, isn’t it? These tours are one of the best ways to use your weekend as each walk is a step to become more of a Delhiite. What do you know, after couple of walks you might actually fall in love with this city! Delhi is a treasure trove as far as architecture and history is considered, every nook and cranny of the city has a story to tell, whereas some labyrthine streets, big and small doors and edifices have more than a tale to narrate. Make the most of your weekend in Delhi and choose one or the other historical destination of the city. Here are few ideas:

Scream Your Lungs Out at Amusement Parks

Yes, I know, this one is quiet clichéd but what can I do, each time I think not to visit an amusement park in Delhi, there is something new that crops up. Which reminds me did you learn about a new amusement park at Sanjay Lake in Trilokpuri? Well, promoted as a destination for eco-tourism, this is the new haunt that is likely to open for public this summer and I am so excited for it! Ok, yes, I am being biased and why shouldn’t I? I think these amusement parks are the most upbeat way of breaking monotony and killing comfort zone. After a roller coaster week at work, it seems ideal to me to ride a real one indeed. You know what is the best part of being here? It is the fact that you can be a kid again! Here are some of the amusements parks that you can visit in Delhi:

  • Adventure Island
  • Fun N Food Village
  • Worlds of Wonder (Noida)
  • Aapno Ghar (Gurgaon)
  • Drizzling Land

Delhi is probably one of the best places to shop in India and with that I mean there are many places apart from the malls that can one can go to. I usually avoid shopping over a weekend and I know many of you to do to avoid getting amidst a maddening crowd, but I couldn’t anymore be contradicting my own way of thinking when I say that weekend indeed is the best time to shop in Delhi. Sunday being the most crowded of all the days can be given a miss and Saturday can be chosen instead. From Antiques to Clothes, from Safety pin to beds, everything can shopped in some of the major markets in Delhi and trust me you are going to completely nail your bargaining skills here! Here are some popular markets in Delhi:

  • Sarojini Nagar
  • Kamla Nagar
  • Lajpat Nagar
  • Karol Bagh
  • Chandani Chowk
  • Tilak Nagar
  • Greater Kailash M-Block Market
  • Janpath
  • Connaught Place
  • Rajouri Garden
  • Gaffar Market
  • Nehru Place
  • South Ex

Attend Film Screenings

Attend Film Screening

French-Swiss filmmaker, Jean Luc Godard once said that ‘Cinema is the most beautiful fraud in the world’ and indeed was correct. But here I am not encouraging you to go watch a latest realeased movie in a theatre (not because it is a bad idea) but to go and watch movies of other languages, which can be both classics as well as latest, made film. There are several places in Delhi, where you have opportunity to relish the movies in languages like Italian, French, Korean and several others. Once in a while something like can actually hit you with a new perspective that may stay with you for a long time, if you know what I mean. Here are some popular places:

  • Iron Curtain
  • India Habitat Centre
  • India International Centre
  • Allaince Francaise
  • Instituto Cervantes
  • Italian Cultural Institute
  • Max Mueller Bhavan
  • American Centre

  • Shah Jahan Tour
  • Yamuna Tour
  • Haveli Tour

Open Gym

Did you wish to hit the gym all week long but due to tight schedule was not able to? Well, you can use your weekend to satiate that week long desire and that too free of cost. Yes, most of us enjoy a nice dinner at a cool restaurant cum lounge in one of the days of the weekend. It would be great to mix this very tradition of eating out with some doze of laughter as well. There are many restaurants in Delhi that invite popular stand-up comedians from across the country. You can check online for such restaurants and shows and make your weekend quite something this time around.

Go Clubbing

This is probably the most clichéd thing to do in Delhi on Friday or a Saturday night. But what’s interesting is the fact that this activity never goes out of fashion. And why should it? After all how many times do you get the chance to look hot and dance like nobody’s watching? Rarely, I know, I have seen people with two left feet having a gala time and those smokers in the corner enjoy tapping the foot while they burn their lungs gradually. Altogether, going clubbing is one of the most invigorating experiences in Delhi to attain during a weekend.

We hope you like our mixed list of conventional and non-conventional things to do in Delhi. If there are more activities that can be included in the list, we would be happy to add them. Comment in the box below with your suggestions and also with your opinion of what you think about this blog.
