Nanda Khat Peak Uttarakhand

Mount Nanda Khat lies to the north of Nanda Devi peak, which is the second tallest peak of India. It is the reason of it being called the ‘Bed of Nanda’. With an elevation of 6,611 m, this peak keeps vaingloriously standing at the rim of the Nanda Devi sanctuary. Situated in the Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand, Nanda Khat peak makes an important part of the Kumaon Himalayas. The peak provides the beautiful glimpses of the Pindari glacier and Traill’s pass at its left, also accompanied by the peaks of Changuch (6322 m) on the right and Panwali Dwar (6663 m) on its left.

With the growing love for adventure activities, Uttarakhand also experiencing the phenomenal boost in the percentage of tourism in here. As per the records, the first successful mountaineering climb on to the Nanda Khat peak of Uttarakhand happened in the year 1931 by Huge Ruttledge, Sri PN Choudhary & porter Pansingh. Whereas, on 16 October 1972 Anup Sah from Nainital led the first ascent of this peak. Provided with amazing sights, it is worthwhile to attempt Nanda Khat Peak of the Uttarakhand Himalayas for trekking and peak climbing. Though it requires amazing will and trained effort to cross the icefall and the glacier at its snout, which one has to face at the starting of the trek. As, in 1970 two climbers from a Mumbai-based team were killed in an avalanche in the Pindari glacier.

To start for Nanda Khat peak, one has to reach Munsiyari first that opens up the trek to various Kumaon peaks. The place is accessible through motorable roads which provide great connectivity to major cities like Kathgodam, Pantnagar and Ramnagar, that are provided with well-functioning bus station, railway station and airport to further connects Munsiyari to the rest of the places of India.
